To do 2023: Share stories and experiences that inspire unfamiliar paths to emerge and new ideas to unfold. I believe the more we learn and see of this world, the more we want take care of it.
From organizing a vaudeville tour of Portugal with 13 performers (and crew) to inflating huge plastic bottles for Natural Plasticity to photographing Prem Baba at Bhakti Fest. I support the birth of beautiful and outrageous ideas. For the latest -> News I currently work with Jana Cruder and Shift Media Productions, mostly on content/art creation - production, storytelling and editing.
My working life started at 14, apprenticing with my father as a brick mason in Denver, Colorado. At 19 I met a Vietnam veteran named Alabama who taught me how to ride freight trains. For the next 6 years I traveled the western states on a train. I picked up odd jobs, hitchhiked through Mexico and slept in ditches. I kept a journal. 7 years later, after teaching myself to write, sharing my short stories with another writer (Steven Kotler), landing an old school literary agent (Mary Evans), a feature in a big magazine (Maxim) - my journals turned into a book - HOBO A Young Man's Thoughts on Trains and Tramping in America. Which was published by Random House in 2002. Hobo was a Denver Post Best Seller and also selected by the Independent Book Sellers of America in both hardcover and paperback for Book Sense 76 - “unique and provocative selections from a great diversity of voices... all personally recommended by the independent booksellers of America”. Hobo has been published in English, German and Turkish. It was recently optioned for a film in 2019. As an author I’ve shared a stage with Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, The Circle), They Might Be Giants, Ira Glass (This American Life), John Hodgman, Steve Earle and Speed Levitch (The Cruise and Waking Life).

In 1996 I landed in San Francisco, where I became a founding member of the Yard Dogs Road Show. I was the manager, producer, tour manager and lighting designer for the show for 15 years. I’ve managed some of my favorite performers, including Yard Dogs Road Show, Beats Antique, Le Serpent Rouge (Rachel Brice, Mardi Love and Zoe Jakes) and El Radio Fantastique. Some of the folks I’ve worked with: World Surf League, New Belgium Brewery, ION Institute, Patron, Savannah College of Art and Design, Wells Fargo, Natural Plasticity, Hendricks Gin, Cirque Du Soleil, Red Bull, Lucas Films and Superfly Presents. I was the producer, writer, narrator and assistant director for the Yard Dogs Road Show documentary - released in late 2015. Which was an official selection for The Sonoma International Film Festival, Noise Pop Film Series, The Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival and The River's Edge International Film Festival. I also spearheaded a Kickstarter campaign for the film, which gave us the budget we needed to complete the project. I love sleepy train yards, surfing, vaudeville and National Geographic.
